15 Lessons From The Dog Park

  1. Sometimes the best of pals are made of the most unlikely pairs.

  2. It doesn't take very long to decide whether you and another dog are a good match.

  3. Some dogs will want to play with you, some won’t.

  4. Some dogs you’ll want to play with, others, not so much.

  5. It doesn’t always line up where the ones you want to play with also want to play with you. And that can be a bummer, which brings me to the next point...

  6. Don’t waste time trying to convince a dog to play with you that’s just not up for it. There are always new dogs coming in the park, see if they want to play instead.

  7. Some dogs will remind you of other dogs you used to play with, but they’re not the same. So get to know them before making assumptions.

  8. Some dogs like to play with other dogs, others like to chase balls. Don’t be a dog that steals their ball. That’s not a game they like.

  9. Most issues and misunderstandings can be resolved on their own, without parental interference.

  10. Some dogs like to be chased. Others like to do the chasing.

  11. Some dogs run away from the water sprinkler. Others lie right under it.

  12. Just because you’re lying down doesn’t mean you’re ready to leave.

  13. Some dogs aren’t here to play. They’re more comfortable standing in the corner.

  14. Some dogs are more vocal. It doesn't mean they’re mean. That’s just how they communicate.

  15. Some dogs will go up to other dogs’ parents and get a feel of what life might be like with them. But they’re always happiest to go back home with who they came with.
