Dear Future Partner: Waiting #5

I don’t understand this concept of “waiting to meet the right person.” I’m sorry (well, not sorry), but I’m not sitting around waiting for you. I have a whole life to live. I’m not putting my life on pause just because you’re not here.

And I hope you’re not on pause waiting for me either. Wait on me? For what? To experience beautiful things? To chase your dreams? To take a chance?

Listen, I’m dying to go on an African safari. To see elephants and tigers and giraffes. I cry just looking at my friends’ photos of their trips. I’m not going to wait up on you for that. Why would I?

I’d much rather have it already a part of me. It’ll be a magical story I can tell you about. You can tease and make fun of me when I tell you how I ran out of tissues from crying so much at how beautiful it all was.

But what good would it be if neither of us had good stories to tell each other? How else would I know I really liked you when we first meet?

Yea, I don’t understand this concept of waiting. It’s as if people think they have time. Time is ticking. Your life is ticking away, my life is ticking away. It’s not like life only starts once we’ve met.

I’ve had a whole life before you. It’s made me who I am. And I hope you’ve had a whole life before me, too. I hope you’ve had young love. I hope you’ve felt heartbreak. It’s part of the beauty of life, feeling it all. It makes you appreciate everything so much more. Well, at least for me it does.

Anyway.

I hope you’re not waiting. I hope you’re living full out. 100%. Full out into yourself. Into your life. Into the moment. Into chasing everything that makes you feel alive inside.

Because to be honest, that’s the only way you’ll catch me.
